Griffith July 2005
Our weekend trip to Griffith was mainly for
a special family birthday and it takes around 6 hours with rest stops.
Taking the Hume Highway to the Yass
turn off then following the road to and through some small and not so small
country towns, where silos are very evident or wheat heaps under cover along
the rail line Binalong, Harden, Wallendbeen, Stockinbingal, Temora, Ardlethan,
Barellan, Binya and Yenda then Griffith.
We were happy to reach Griffith after a long drive we stayed in a hotel
in the town centre which was OK but noisy we won’t do this again.
We had a fun time at the birthday party
and the weekend went very quick, a very enjoyable but very tiring weekend.
The Griffith area is famous for its
vineyards, wineries and crops with a very large Italian population.
We visited the Hermits Caves
and Lookout where the views were spectacular over the Griffith area. The caves were once the home of Valerio Riccetti, a miner from Broken Hill it was wonderful to be able to walk around this area.

We had the opportunity to visit a onion
farm
which belongs to one of our family, although it was not the time of the year for picking onions it was interesting to see the size of the shed and equipment. We drove over the irrigation channels and saw fields of crops and orange orchards,
Griffith is a very important part of our food chain.
